About Karen:

Having grown up in Victoria, Karen has a large extended family here as well as great friends. She graduated from Oak Bay High School, and after attending the University of Victoria for two years, she transferred to Simon Fraser University to study Criminology.

Upon completing her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Criminology, Karen moved to Australia for law school. In 2000, she became a lawyer in Western Australia. She worked for a private firm (now Herbert Smith Freehills) in the area of employment law before working for the Australian Government Solicitor in the business and commercial unit in Perth, Western Australia.

Furthering her legal studies, Karen completed a Masters of Law (with Distinction) at the University of Western Australia before moving back to Canada to be closer to family. She has taught at a variety of universities in Australia and here in Canada. Currently, Karen is is developing a course for the Master of Arts Program for Royal Roads University in Victoria, and teaching for Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops and online for the University of Alberta in Edmonton.

Karen has three children, two of whom live here in Victoria with her and one who attends the University of British Columbia in Kelowna. Karen’s family enjoys kayaking on local lakes along with Rosie; the wonderful Golden Retriever. And then there’s Mike, the rescue cat, he shows Karen what would happen if she wasn’t busy. (Mike has a big day when he moves off his cat tree.)

Currently, Karen is Articling with Dogwood Law and hopes to be admitted as a full member of ‘the bar,’ of British Columbia in the first quarter of 2018. With her previous experience as a fully qualified lawyer in Australia, Karen’s Articling here in British Columbia maintains the integrity of the legal profession. Karen is extremely knowledgeable, capable and compassionate. She is happy to help you with your legal issues and is looking forward to providing excellent value for any legal services you may require.
